After shoulder surgery two years ago and an emergency appendectomy this past May, a day like Saturday looked unlikely for Tim Stauffer, which made it all the more sweet.

In a move to combat Giants left-handed starter Barry Zito, Padres manager Bud Black stacked his lineup with right-handed hitters for Saturday's game — meaning Scott Hairston got a rare start in left field.
